Lake Tekapo and the road to Queenstown

We seem to be zigzagging between the east coast and the mountain range in the middle of the island.
After Methven we drove through Ashberton to Timaru (we wanted to go to a larger city to stock up) - we stayed the night there and in the morning continued to lake Tekapo.

What an amazing place with great nature views.
The caravan park was pretty basic but there were many trails around the area and an outdoor ice rink for ice skating.

Here I am at the ice rink -

On the way to Queenstoewn, some very big fruit -

The snowy mountains that you see were used in the filming of lord of the rings -

The trek in lake tekapo - kol hakavod to Meytar that managed this ~3 hour walk !
We walked up the mountain (~1000 m) - at the top there is a university star observatory & cafe - the tour inside the domes was too expensive so we just went to the cafe.

Nitai is being carried all the way in his "dubi" suit on a carrier that we found in an op-shop in ashberton.
